Under the supervision, of the Director of Facilities & Housing Development, this position is responsible for performing routine building maintenance on multi-family apartments, single-family houses, and clinical / medical facilities. Tasks include but not limited to (e.g. carpentry; electrical; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); plumbing, etc.). 


  1. Performs repair or general maintenance work of facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment at various sites including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, glazier, and painting tasks.
  2. Performs minor repairs, troubleshooting, and adjustment of locks on cabinets, locks, closets, desks.
  3. Repairs door hinges, cleaning plugged key slots, changing filters on ventilating, heating, and air conditioning units.
  4. Services kitchen, appliances, and emergency equipment, reporting mechanical malfunctions to party for action.
  5. Moves and assists in transportation of furniture and equipment.
  6. Exercises discretion to identify projects that need higher skilled crafts individual's services.
  7. Assists in obtaining quotes and arranging for services of outside vendors as needed; annotates and updates work logs for specific site requirements.
  8. Activates and deactivates building alarms and respond to alarm calls after and during regular work hours.




  1. Ability to use efficiently various power and hand tools.
  2. Ability to drive and operate State owned motor vehicles.
  3. Safely operate State vehicles and /or construction equipment in all weather conditions.
  4. Communicate efficiently and fluently in both written and oral form.
  5. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.
  6. Follow orders and complete work assignments with a minimum of supervision.
  7. Apply methods, practices, and procedures in preventative maintenance, inspection, repair, renovation, and minor construction of buildings and utilities.
  8. Assist other trade personnel in their work.
  9. Observe, record, and report unsafe working conditions.
  10. Follow safety standards in working with multiple services, tools, and equipment.
  11. Read and interpret blueprints, sketches and schematics as they relate to buildings and utilities services systems.


  1. GED or high school education or some technical training experiences.
  2. A valid State of Georgia driver's license.
  3. Basic office computer skills, word processing, email, and spreadsheets.
  4. PREFERRED: HVAC/EPA Certified


 The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  1. The employee must be able to climb ladders and work in high, precarious places up to elevations of 175 feet.
